Ghana´s Eating Places

DID YOU KNOW?

Banana!

Picture
Not many of us enjoy banana. When was the last time you got yourself one if you have started denying the statement. Yes answer yourself that. Banana comes in different shapes and sizes, the locally made and the foreign type. For Ghanaian's groundnut is a perfect combination for banana. Inspite of its tastes, did you know that banana
Protects your heart, quiets a cough, strengthens bones, controls blood pressure and even blocks diarrhea? Yes it does.

Bananas are a very good source of vitamin B6 and a good source of vitamin C, potassium, dietary fiber, and manganese. The banana can help to regulate the digestive tract and ease constipation due to the pectin content. You don’t need to eat bananas for the potassium! (Although it is present in bananas, potassium is the predominant nutrient among most all fruits and vegetables).
But wait hold on! Don’t eat bananas on an empty stomach; combining them with a bit of protein will help to normalize the insulin response caused by the sugar in the banana. Green-tipped bananas are better for your health than over-ripe bananas due to the resistant starch content. As bananas ripen this starch increases. There is some argument that regular consumption of banana when not receiving vitamin D from a natural source (Sunshine) could prevent the body from absorbing vitamin D from other sources.

Olive oil!

Picture
Before you go far with you thoughts on olive oil, hold on, we are not playing church yet. Funny huh!
Like a fine wine, each variety of olive oil is evaluated by tasting and measuring its acidity before bottling.
The flavour of olive oil is as a result of the acidity and the lower the acidity value , the better the flavour.
The colour of the olive oil is dependant on the pigments in the fruit. Olives give a green oil because of the high chlorophyll content while ripe olives give a yellow oil because of the carotenoid (yellow/red) pigments. However, the colour of the oil will not reliably predict the taste of the oil. Both light and heat are known enemies to olive oil. Recommended storage of olive oil is in a dark press in a dark glass bottle. Since olive oil hardens at refrigerator temperature, it is best to store at room temperature. Olive oil is extremely versatile and can be used in a wide variety of hot and cold dishes. For example, it can enhance the flavour of a cold salad or be used to marinate meat or fish; it can add a touch of luxury to sautéed potatoes; and olive oil can be used in the same way as butter or vegetable oils when cooking, frying and basting. There is less risk of it going rancid while cooking since olive oil remains stable at very high temperatures. But enough! this is what you are missing on olive oil. Did you know that......olive oil protects your heart, promotes Weight loss, combats cancer, battles diabetes and smoothes skin? That is to mention a few? So you really don't need to change your cream you need olive oil.

Like many fruits, it is fat-free, cholesterol free, very low in sodium and high in the vitamins C, A, E, K and folate. High vitamin C content is one of the papaya nutrient details that we know. Ineed, one piece of fruit contains a full day’s supply of vitamin C. The health benefits of vitamin C are long and varied.
Researchers are currently studying vitamin C as an alternative cancer treatment. It is a powerful antioxidant and must be obtained from food because the human body cannot create its own vitamin C. Vitamin E is another well known antioxidant found in the papaya, well known for skin health and as a blood thinner.
Beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A, is another nutrient provided by the papaya. The compounds that give fruits and vegetables their different colors nourish the human body. The papaya contains a natural pain reliever. A papaya paste was used traditionally for the relief of burns, cuts, rashes and stings. A compound known as papain is derived from the papaya fruit and has long been used as a natural meat tenderizer. It is believed that this enzyme may help the body digest meats and amino acids more efficiently. Unripe papaya has been used for contraceptive purposes by traditional healers in Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka. Scientific studies have confirmed that the fruit does have contraceptive effects on animals. It appears that phytochemicals in the papaya suppress the effects of progesterone. However, the ripe fruit in amounts that a person would normally consume is not an effective contraceptive.
